"We ran ads, but nothing happened" — we hear this all the time. In most cases the problem isn't the platform but how the campaign is set up. Follow these 6 rules to spend your Meta Ads budget wisely.
1. Choose the right campaign objective
Meta's algorithm optimizes for the objective you choose. If you want inquiries, choose Leads or Messages; if you want sales, choose Sales. Simply hitting "Boost" on a post often brings nothing but likes.
2. Target your audience precisely
An audience that's too broad wastes budget, while one that's too narrow makes ads expensive. Start with age, location and interests, then build Lookalike and Custom audiences based on your results.
3. Invest in creatives
Users decide in less than a second in their feed. A video that grabs attention in the first 3 seconds, a clear message and a strong call to action are half of an ad's success.
4. Set up Meta Pixel and the Conversions API
You can't optimize ads without measuring what happens on your website. The Pixel lets you track results and show ads again to people who visited your site (retargeting).
5. Run A/B tests
Test several headlines, images or audiences at the same time. After a few days, keep the best-performing variant and pause the rest.
6. Track the right metrics
Likes are not a business metric. Look at:
- CPL — cost per lead
- CTR — click-through rate
- ROAS — revenue generated per unit of ad spend
- Frequency — how many times the same person saw your ad
An ad budget is not an expense but an investment — as long as it can be measured.
